How does Aquadragon work?
Aqua Dragon consists of a control box, a flow switch, a solenoid valve, a power supply and interconnecting cables.
When water flows through the flow switch at a rate greater than 5 litres per hour (equivalent to a rapidly dripping tap), the control box starts a countdown. This countdown period is adjustable between 5 and 60 minutes to suit any particular installation. This allows the system to be “tuned” to prevent nuisance water shut offs due to, for example, a slow filling toilet cistern. Note that the Aqua Dragon uses a flow switch set for 5 litres per HOUR. This figure was arrived at after extensive tests and studies of typical domestic water installations. Less than 5 litres per hour results in excessive nuisance shut offs and greater than 5 litres an hour will not detect a large percentage of typical plumbing leaks. 5 litres per minute, as used by some of our competitors, is practically useless.
The Aqua Dragon flow switch was designed specifically for the purpose as there was no other suitable flow switch readily available.
If water stops flowing before the countdown reaches zero, the countdown automatically resets. If the countdown reaches zero, the control box closes the solenoid valve and stops water flowing.
The valve can only be opened again by the operator pressing the ON/OFF button, thus preventing excessive waste and alerting the user to the fact that water is being wasted somewhere.
As with any microprocessor system, additional features have been included. However, these have been kept to an absolute minimum in order to make Aqua Dragon as user friendly as possible. Non essential “gimmicks”, such as an inbuilt digital clock, water used meter etc. have been deliberately left out as such information is readily available from other sources and would only make operation more complicated.

Useful features designed in to the system include:-

• An override button to give an extra 90 minutes of uninterrupted water flow for extended tasks such as vehicle washing or lawn sprinkler use.

• Automatic water shut off in the case of mains power failure.
This ensures that protection is maintained even if there is a power cut. An emergency override mechanism is built in to allow water use even if there is no mains power available.
Aqua Dragon was deliberately designed to be mains powered (via a safe low voltage power supply) to ensure that protection can not be accidentally lost as could happen in a battery powered unit when the batteries become discharged.

• Automatic water shut off if no water use is detected for a period of 18 hours. This protects against waste or damage if the occupants went away on holiday.

• A test mode is included which allows a new installation to be rapidly tested and demonstrated. In this mode everthing is done 60 times faster than normal, i.e. minutes become seconds and hours become minutes.
